It turns out I don't have a mental picture of Murderbot (I don't have strong mental imagery for reading, and Murderbot POV mostly doesn't pay attention to details of its own appearance), so this doesn't bother me. But I respect your reaction; a lot of people share it! And one of the reasons for rereading the books is that I'd like to decrease the amount that the show overrides my mental imagery of the characters. And there are still a lot of places where the show could disappoint me, I'm just really hoping it doesn't. My personal dream is that we'd get multiple Murderbot adaptations with a diverse group of Murderbots, but that's way too much to ask for.
