Unclear, but Seraphael does die a couple years after he gets married, and the female character's early death is suggested to have been hastened by her getting engaged young and getting to enjoy having her fiance put his arm around her. So there's a definite "sexuality leads to death" theme here.

Louise Farrenc is great! Emilie Mayer is another 19th century composer of symphonies, and they both missed the memo that they were supposed to die young!
