My recommendation for where to start is the Lighthouse Duet: Flesh and Spirit and Breath and Bone -- they do start off very male-centric, as the first half of the first book is set in a monastery, and the protagonist has some toxic masculinity going on, but this improves massively over the course of the series. I also like the first two books of the Collegia Magica series, but in the third one Berg takes her tendency to torture her characters too far.
