Don Carlos, Friedrich Schiller, translated by R. D. Boylan. Play read-aloud -- so far we've read up to the end of Act III, and will finish on Saturday. I am unspoiled for how this ends, but so far it is Really Something. It starts out as a Shakespeare-style family drama, with the titular angsty prince being in love with his stepmother. Court intrigue happens as it does, and then at the end of Act III we get an unexpected right turn into Don Carlos's BFF lecturing the Bad King on Human Dignity and how he should be an Enlightened Monarch and all that. I'm sure the translation (chosen because it was free on Gutenberg) doesn't do Schiller's poetry justice, but it gets the idea across.

L'Ile Mysterieuse (The Mysterious Island), Jules Verne. Still reading this one! Alas there has been very little progress on the Mystery of the Island -- our gang explored but only found the remains of the hot air balloon that brought them to the island, but people have fresh clothing now, both from the Barrel of Useful Things, and also they have salvaged the cloth from the hot air balloon, and conveniently there's a sailor in the crew, who is good at sewing. They also have sheep now among various other animals that they are working on domesticating, and I look forward to seeing how they do with wool!
