wednesday books is back
18 May 2022 21:02Catching up after a couple weeks off...
The Discord of Gods, Jenn Lyons. Final book in the Chorus of Dragons series -- if you are expecting from that title for it to be All Dragons All the Time, you will be disappointed. But it is a fun and complete series with interesting worldbuilding and snarky footnotes. No huge twists here, but at least we get an ending that resolves the plot with a bunch of chessmastering happening on both sides. The worldbuilding does feel pretty RPGish, and some parts of the book are pretty LARPy (the scene where everyone on our team is in a room and have just realized they need to give some people godlike powers, and deciding who gets which power). The footnotes in this one were fun, though I would have liked to have gotten a bit more of frame story about how those two decided to write the book together.
The King of Attolia, Megan Whalen Turner. On my first read of the books this was my least favorite of the series, though I feel like I was probably missing something. Curious if I'll like it better this time around. So far lots of politics and bullying and navigating power structures.
