The Land of Nowhere

This is a terrific writeup, thank you so much! I love it that a teenager's overwrought roman au clef has survived this long, and that it has so many fascinating aspects, from the boarding school story to the Charles --> Seraphael to the lovingly described musical events and the Jewish issues. I might take a look at it on Gutenberg myself.
(Amused at the "writing great music drains the life force"; how did she account for Bach's one zillion cantatas and one zillion children, I wonder... .)
