Be the Serpent, Seanan McGuire -- well, that went places! Excited to see this series get into gear for what I'm guessing is the start of endgame. I was also thinking about how this series -- like its setting San Francisco, but in a different ways -- is gentrifying -- gone from being about stray changelings to being about the (new and old) power elites. A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking, T. Kingfisher. Book club book -- and I think it's a good choice for that, it's well done and has left me thinking. The basic gimmick: exciting action scenes with magically animated bread is fun -- but really the whole story is darker, not always in ways it considers. (Despite the title, the book takes the attitude that the best defense is a good offense.)

Because Internet, Gretchen McCulloch. This explains a lot about the linguistics and sociology of the internet, but is also just a good and fun example of popular writing (and you can tell that the author, as a linguist, is aware of what she's doing and the tricks she's using to make her writing more accessible). A pleasant read.
