The Once and Future Witches, Alix Harrow. That was fun, in a "unsubtle feminist ass-kicking" sort of way. I continue to stand behind everything I said last time.
Winterkeep, Kristin Cashore. Newest book in the Graceling series. Seems like it should be fun YA fantasy with telepathic animals and environmentalism. The unobtainium in this book is called "zilphium", which makes me wonder if it can be used as a contraceptive, but I think this world's magical contraception is called something else.

Date: 27 Mar 2021 14:29 (UTC)I enjoyed Graceling and Fire so much, despite Graceling being damaged by knowing the twist, and Bitterblue in particular I love to pieces. It's much messier I think but just so dark and upsetting and real. And as a Brit - even a small-r republican one - I was pleased to see a fantasy monarchy moving towards constitutional monarchy instead of revolution or "just have a nice monarch!" being the only options.
