Ruin and Rising, Leigh Bardugo. Generally enjoyable ending to the YA fantasy trilogy, not too angsty. Would have liked more firebird.

The Assassins of Thasalon, Lois McMaster Bujold. New Penric! Yay more Penric teaching sorcery lessons and being an all-around decent person! I'm only partway through, but there is lots of political intrigue being set up.

Dear Brutus, J. M. Barrie. Readaloud. There is no Brutus in this play, just a bunch of people who got through a portal to an alternate timeline. Parts of this are very charming, parts of this are a bit sideeye-y. Also Barrie has a tendency to treat his stage directions like a novel:

"Sometimes, as when he sees other people at work, a wistful look takes the place of the smile, and MR. COADE fidgets like one who would be elsewhere. Then there rises before his eyes the room called the study in his house, whose walls are lined with boxes marked A. B. C. to Z. and A2. B2. C2. to K2. These contain dusty notes for his great work on the Feudal System, the notes many years old, the work, strictly speaking, not yet begun. He still speaks at times of finishing it but never of beginning it."

The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars - Cassius to Brutus in Julius Caesar arguing that they are not the minions of fate but able to change their destiny.

I once saw Dear Brutus produced, in a tiny space over a pub - SIGH. How many plays have I seen in similar venues over/under/behind pubs or other premises and when if ever will this be a thing again in London?
