landofnowhereI Have Some Questions For You, Rebecca Makkai. A podcaster visits the boarding school she attended as a teenager, and the students' interest in an on-campus murder that happened when she was a student causes her to dredge up memories and rethink her past. An excellent plane read, engrossing, ambitious -- the protagonist has some flaws as a person but drags us along with her.
Defiant, Brandon Sanderson. Book 4 of the Skyward series, which I've generally enjoyed, though this one may be darker from what I've read so far. I don't remember the previous books in the series super well, but my experience with Sanderson series is that he explains enough as he goes along that this hasn't been a big problem for me. (I'm sure I'd get more out of it if I were close-reading to follow the details of the worldbuilding, but I'm not.)
